Project Title: Intracellular microscopy for elucidation of programmed cell death

Short Bio and Project Details:

Sandeep Patra joined the IITB Monash Research Academy as a PhD scholar in the field of Chemistry, under the supervision of Prof. Anindya Datta (IIT Bombay), Prof. Toby Bell (Monash University), and Prof. Senthil Arumugam (Monash University).

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Microbiology from the University of Delhi and a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

Sandeep has joined the Academy to work on intracellular microscopy for the elucidation of programmed cell death pathways. His research focuses on developing and applying advanced fluorescence microscopy approaches to investigate the molecular and biophysical changes that occur inside cells during different forms of programmed cell death. His work combines fluorescent probe development with techniques such as fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) to study changes in the intracellular microenvironment and organelle dynamics.

Through this research, he aims to develop new imaging approaches for understanding the complex cellular events associated with programmed cell death and to establish microscopy-based tools for studying these processes in physiologically relevant cellular models.

Outside the laboratory, Sandeep enjoys playing football, exploring new places, and creating science-related content.
