Nawaz is a Prime Minister's research fellow at the academy. His research under the supervision of Prof. Prabhakar Naraga (IIT Bombay) and Prof. Peter Betts (Monash) focuses on deciphering the structural and metamorphic evolution of the granites and gneisses belonging to the Mewar gneissic complex, i.e., BGC-I (Archean age) of the Aravalli Craton (NW India) and its relevance to the tectonic relationship with the neighbouring BGC-II (Proterozoic age). His study aims to reconstruct the pressure-temperature history of the rocks, analyse the deformation and timing of their transformation, identify unresolved questions about their crustal evolution, and ultimately propose a comprehensive tectonic model for their formation and link it to the broader history of supercontinent assembly and breakup. He hails from Aligarh and holds a master's degree from Aligarh Muslim University. Outside academia, his interest lies in street photography, reciting poetry, and trekking and exploring places.
