Shivali Patkar

Shivali has always been interested in working in the interdisciplinary fields of tissue engineering, immunology, and cancer biology. Her doctoral research at the IITB-Monash Research Academy focuses on developing a microgel-based CAR-T cell delivery system for the treatment of solid tumors, and she will be working under the guidance of Prof. Prakriti Tayalia, Prof. John Forsythe, and Prof. Daniela Loessner. She hails from the city of dreams- Mumbai and has completed her Master of Science in Microbiology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Her master's dissertation at the Radiation Medicine Centre, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), involved studying the in vitro antioxidant efficacy of microbial pigments in oxidative stress-induced macrophages. After her MSc, she worked as a research intern at IIT Bombay and developed skin substitutes for wound healing in burn victims. She also worked as a junior research fellow (JRF) at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)- National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health (NIRRCH) and was involved in studying the functional impact of N-glycosylation of Trop2 protein in an ovarian cancer cell line. With two years of combined research experience, she has four peer-reviewed international publications to her credit. Apart from science, she is passionate about trekking and traveling. She is a trained air rifle shooter, and a national-level gold medalist and black belt in karate. When not found in the lab, you might find her binge-watching some weird TV series or documentaries.
