Poornima completed her graduation in Biochemistry (H) from University of Delhi and Post graduation in Biotechnology from VIT University Vellore. At IITB-Monash Research academy, she was chosen to work on the project, “Cellulose nanofibre recovery from fruit waste” under the joint guidance of Dr Amit Arora, Dr Warren Batchelor and Dr Antonio Patti. During her master's dissertation project, she was successfully able to isolate bacteriophages active against carbapenem resistant E.coli to be further used as a potent therapeutic agent for antibiotic resistant infections. Apart from dissertation project, she has worked on three other projects and completed an internship in the biochemistry lab of Dr BSA hospital. She has presented her work in the Science Engineering and Technology conference held at VIT University. Apart from academics, she is professionally trained in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kathak and also has active interest in creative writing. She has been actively involved with Global Cancer Concern and National service scheme during school and college days respectively.
