Achintya Paliwal is a PhD scholar at the IITB-Monash Research Academy, specializing in meteorological phenomena. He holds a mechanical engineering degree and an M.Tech in Earth System Science from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST, Kerala). His master's research focused on planetary science, specifically studying the magma-filled craters of the Moon to understand the endogenic processes within its interior. Currently, under the supervision of Prof. Vishal Dixit (IIT Bombay) and Dr. Martin Singh (Monash University), he is researching the prediction of intense storms over tropical and subtropical regions, which lead to extreme events such as lightning, hail, and heavy precipitation. Previously, he worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF, Noida), where he specialized in the data assimilation of satellite microwave radiance from low Earth inclined orbits. His extracurricular activities include badminton, indology, and theatre arts.
