Akhilesh Modi

Akhilesh Modi, a doctoral research fellow at the IITB-Monash Research Academy, earned his bachelor's degree in Genetics from Sardar Patel University and a master's degree in Genetic Engineering from Padma Shree Dr. D.Y. Patil University. He previously worked as a Research Associate on the "Translational Applications for Therapeutics from Veterinary and Allied Microbials (TATVAM)" project at the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre, funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. During this time, he developed expertise in Recombinant DNA Technology, DNA sequencing, Molecular Cloning, and Protein Expression and Purification, and is proficient with proteomic instruments like the Fermenter system, HPLC, LC-MS, and MALDI-TOF. He has published research articles in reputed journals and contributed over 200 SARS-CoV-2 genome sequences to NCBI. Currently, he is working on "Smart plant protein production via upcycling of side streams of the food industry and underutilized crops" under the guidance of Prof. Amit Arora (IIT Bombay) and Prof. Sushil Dhital (Monash University). Outside academics, he enjoys photography, Travelling, documentaries, Sports, and gym exercise.
