Shubham Kumar is from Dhanbad Jharkhand. He has qualified for JEE 2014 and WBJEEB 2014. He is a Chemical Engineer from Haldia Institute of Technology, West Bengal. He has gained an experience as a “Production Engineer” in a Paper Manufacturing unit and also has a job profile in Surface Science and Surface Chemistry research. He has worked as Junior Research Fellow for 2 years on BRNS-BARC, DAE projecttitled “Porosity controls on gas storage in unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs through neutron scattering” in Earth Sciences at IIT Bombay. He is a member of the student-led team that won the coveted “XPRIZE for demonstration of carbon dioxide removal”, supported by the Elon Musk Foundation, becoming the sole Indian entry to win the competition as announced in the Sustainable Development Forum of COP-26 in Glasgow. An NPTEL course on “Waste to Energy Conversion” organized by IIT Roorkee and the research background motivated him to pursue his career in “ Carbon capture utilization and storage" (CCUS). Later, he joined IITB-Monash Research Academy under the supervision of Prof. Vikram Vishal, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Ranjith Pathegama Gamage (Monash University) on the topic titled “Geomechanical modeling of flow and deformation in coal measure rocks”. Shubham is enthusiastic about environmental challenges and would like to contribute novel solutions to the real world. He likes to cook, travel and interact with society.
