I am Mohan Kumar Somavarapu from Hyderabad, India. I completed my B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Vardhaman College of Engineering Hyderabad in 2019. During my Under-Graduation one question made me think about Transportation Engineering “Why should I spend a lot of time in a traffic jam?”. A significant interest in Transportation Engineering pulls me to pursue post-Graduation, so I joined as an M.Tech. scholar in the Department of Civil Engineering, NIT Hamirpur, in September 2020. During my M.Tech. I have gained knowledge in various domains of Transportation Engineering and developed computational skills in different Image-processing and Machine Learning techniques. In my Master’s dissertation under the supervision of Prof. Subhadip Biswas, I developed a novel Image-processing based methodology for automatically extracting classified traffic volume data from the video file. After the completion of my M.Tech. in May 2022, I plan to engage myself in research work where I can apply my Image-processing and Machine Learning skills to solve complex state-of-the-art Traffic Engineering problems. Currently, I joined in IITB-Monash Research Academy as a Ph.D. scholar. Here I am working on the “Effect of human factor and dynamics of connected and autonomous vehicles on highway infrastructure elements” (IMURA0861) under the supervision of Prof. Avijit Maji, IIT Bombay, India and Prof. Nan Zheng, Monash University, Australia. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, playing badminton, and traveling with friends.
