Geared towards PhD training on a sizeable scale, the Academy brings a collaborative and solutions-driven approach to addressing global problems. With strong industry involvement, it is taking the lead in solving some greatest challenges of our time. IITB and Monash University’s joint venture PhD program is unique in terms of size and scale. Through collaborative research projects, the Academy produces a highly talented pool of graduates who are currently taking on world challenges in fields as diverse as novel approaches to drug delivery and sustainable forms of energy production.

Our students enjoy the best of two worlds. In this joint program, a student typically spends 3 years in IIT Bombay and 1 year in Monash University.
IIT Bombay is in Powai, a suburb of Mumbai. It has a beautiful campus located near the Powai Lake and bordering the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Beyond its vibrant academic environment, IIT Bombay has a sylvan campus which is rich in natural flora and fauna. The campus offers a peaceful ambience to pursue research. IIT Bombay is arguably the best university in India...
To me, a PhD is not just a degree but a state of mind. It's a mindset that enables me to face every challenge, however difficult... thrown at you. Not all institutions give an environment to cultivate such a character. I have been fortunate to be part of the Academy, where every student gets such a conducive environment. The unique model which assimilates the best of IIT Bombay and Monash University gave me all the tools to equip myself for the future. The challenges are not yet over and will not be over, but I am always ready to face them, thanks to the Academy.
IITB-Monash is an excellent place to do your Ph.D. You get guidance from two different countries (India and Australia) and two... different institutes (IIT Bombay and Monash University). Both institutions have different strengths and cultures. IIT Bombay is exceptionally great when it comes to mathematical modeling, simulation technology and theoretical problem formulation, and solution-finding. Monash has got an excellent infrastructure for experimentation IITB-Monash offers the best of two worlds, and I highly recommend doing your Ph.D. from the Academy. Not but the least, IITB-Monash has dedicated excellent support staff, who are always there to help you with their full heart. I feel extremely lucky to be part of the Academy.
I have joined IITB-Monash Research Academy as a PhD student in 2019 and working in the field of nanomaterials under the guidance of... Prof. C. Subramaniam (IIT Bombay) and Prof. Alan Chaffee (Monash University). This unique joint PhD program provides an excellent platform for intellectual development while getting hands-on experience in well-equipped research labs in two premier institutes. So far my journey has been great and fulfilling. The opportunity to work in a diverse cultural environment has helped me to develop as a person and add a global perspective to my research approach.
The incredible intellectual knot tied between two prestigious institutions provides a great opportunity to work on the challenging research problems... of the present time. Thanks to the IITB-Monash academy for its round the clock support and immediate solutions to our academic as well non-academic issues so that we can focus fully on our research topic. The joint supervision and the rigorous progress assessments provide different points of view to think and work on the research problems. I am fortunate to be a part of the academy where I can carve out my research career in the best possible way.
The joint program provides an opportunity to work on the Monash university-driven cutting-edge projects with the sound technical expertise of IITB. So, some... of the work is already done for students compared to the regular Ph.D. programs in India. Students can utilize the facilities provided by both universities and harness the best one, depending on their requirements. All the academy officials are conducive and prompt. During the statutory works such as admission and visa application, they are accommodating, and mostly all the process happens smoothly. Also, the Academy provides English communication sessions and slots for paper review, which add to the charm. Finally, the program's time limit keeps us motivated to progress continuously in Ph.D. work.
A wonderful experience working with two elite institutions. Really hoping for some great work in my PhD!
